Every self has locked rooms. The envy you would never admit to. The anger that frightens you. The pettiness, the greed, the cruelty you once glimpsed in yourself and immediately looked away from. Somewhere along the way, each of us drew up a list of acceptable feelings — and everything not on the list was sent downstairs, locked in, declared not me.

Psychology calls this exiled collection the shadow. The material’s view of it is quietly revolutionary: those rooms are not full of enemies. They are full of the Creator. If all things are one — and this is the very first premise of the whole teaching — then there is no impulse in you, however dark, that is not also made of the same original substance as your kindness and your love. Distorted, yes. Twisted by fear into strange shapes, often. But not foreign. Nothing in you is foreign.

And here is the practical weight of that: what is locked away does not sleep. It spends your energy guarding the door. It leaks out sideways — in the snapped remark, the inexplicable mood, the harsh judgment of someone else’s visible flaw. The exile costs more than the meeting ever would.

This week we are not going to fling every door open at once; that is not gentleness, and this path is gentle. We are only going to admit, today, that the rooms exist — and that what lives in them has been waiting, all along, not for a judge but for a host.

☕ Today’s Micro-Practice: Privately name one feeling you consider “not me” — envy, rage, self-pity. Write it down, then add: “This, too, is made of the one original Thought.” Notice what happens in your body.
