We have spent two weeks saying that experience is curriculum and the veil is a gift. Now comes the question that tests every teaching, the one no honest path may dodge: then why is there so much pain? Not the instructive friction of a difficult colleague — the real thing. The child’s diagnosis. The war. The grief that empties years.

Notice, first, what the material does not say. It does not say suffering is punishment; there is no wrathful judge anywhere in this cosmology. It does not say suffering is illusion in the dismissive sense, as though your grief were an error of perception. And it does not say the details of every horror are individually intended — a world dense enough for real choices is dense enough for real collisions.

What it says is harder and stranger: suffering is what catalyst feels like at full intensity, in a density built for transformation under the veil — and the capacity of pain to transform is bought at the price of its capacity to wound. The fire that can anneal can also burn. You cannot have a world where love is chosen in the dark, at real cost, and also a world where nothing can ever truly hurt.

That is not a tidy answer, and this week will not pretend it closes the question. But it opens the only door worth opening: if suffering is catalyst, then even this — even the worst of it — is not meaningless. And with that, everything begins.

☕ Today’s Micro-Practice: Bring to mind one suffering you carry — yours or a loved one’s. Do not explain it today. Simply say to it: “I will not pretend you are meaningless.” That sentence is this week’s ground.
