🧭 Session Snapshot
Date: September 15, 1982

Core Themes:

Winged creatures & free will: why Ra refuses to decode the hawk/bird in Card Three—and why shared “subjectively notable” signs are private language.

A weird morning odor: decomposing second-density remains + an elemental attempting residence.

Decision-making under “sign pressure”: Ra’s refusal to choose for the group—any properly prepared place is workable; discrimination is yours.

A rare “meta-pivot”: Ra pulls the student up out of image-fixation and back into unity: archetypes are a resource for faith/will—not a replacement for the central mystery.

Archetype 5 begins: Significator of the Mind (Card Five) as complete envelopment within the rectangle; mind cannot act without body.

Polarity’s “paradox”: apparently positive experiences can record as negative bias; apparently negative experiences often become STO-helpful fruit—hence symbol placement.

Octaves everywhere: the eight cartouches invite octave-study beyond “just chakras.”

Psychic greeting flare: throat/chest tightening + allergy/mucus activation; re-walking the Circle of One and frequent coughing to stabilize.

🌟 Key Takeaways

Not all “winged events” are archetypal signals. Ra explicitly warns against universalizing every hawk/bird moment into tarot mechanics.

Shared signs can be real—and still not publicly interpretable. Ra suggests that “subjectively meaningful” phenomena can arise from shared past work, but outsiders should not decode them (free will).

Archetypes are not the point. Ra’s strongest reminder: don’t let bird/beast, shadow/shape, or any concept-complex distract from unity.

The Significator is boxed in—by design. The mind in 3D is fully embedded in incarnation; it speaks through mouth and acts through limbs.

The mind notices “left” easily. The leftward gaze (toward negative catalyst) is “substantially correct” as a tendency.

Polarity is recorded strangely. What looks positive can produce negative biases, and what looks negative can become STO-fertilizer; this is a major clue to why the polarity figures sit where they do.

Old symbolism matters: the left-hand path was traditionally “russet” (red-brown), not simply black.

When in doubt: communicate clearly. Ra’s practical refrain returns: the instrument must speak plainly to the support group about difficulties so care can be taken.

🧩 Full Q&A with Commentary

97.1 — Condition of the instrument
Summary. As previously stated.

Commentary. By now, “as previously stated” is often a hint that the real action of the session is elsewhere—usually in catalyst + archetypal study.

97.2 — Status of the fifth-density negative friend
Summary. As previously stated.

Commentary. The greeting remains the background pressure, and then suddenly becomes foreground (as it does later in this session).

🦅 Winged Creatures, Private Signs, and Free Will
97.3 — Don’s analysis of the bird in Card Three (message, wing positions, negativity)
Summary. Ra: “No.”

Commentary. The refusal is the teaching: don’t force a clean decoding where free will + ambiguity are part of the design.

97.4 — Is the lack of comment due to the first distortion?
Summary. Yes.

Commentary. Ra’s boundary is consistent: confirmation is sometimes possible; interpretation is not—especially when it would steer choice.

97.5 — Don’s hawk interpretation (“message not to move”)
Summary. Ra cautions: not all winged creatures have archetypical meaning. Ra suggests that “shared, subjectively notable phenomena” can occur when, in another incarnational experience, significant work toward increased polarity was shared. Such phenomena can function as communication whose nature cannot be discussed by outsiders without infringing free will.

Commentary. This is a fascinating middle way:

Not “it’s nothing.”
Not “here is the meaning.”
But: “It may be a private language—honor it as private.”

🧼 A Small Mystery: Odor + Elemental Opportunism
97.6 — Source of the unusual odor
Summary. Two components: decomposing physical remains of a second-density rodent, and an elemental attempting residence in those remains. Cleaning + burning incense discouraged the elemental; decomposition will soon end the odor.

Commentary. Ra’s metaphysics remains intensely earthy: sometimes the “astral” is literally trying to move into something rotting in your room.

🧭 Decision Pressure: “The discrimination of choice is yours”
97.7 — Don’s quandary about moving and optimal service
Summary. Ra says the questioner presumes much; to comment would infringe free will. Ra repeats: any properly prepared place of working is acceptable; the discrimination is yours.

Commentary. A clean operational principle:

Prepare the space.
Maintain harmony.
Then stop outsourcing your choice to omens.

🧱 The Great Re-Centering: Unity Above the Images
97.8–97.9 — “Did we miss anything to remove from the first four cards?”
Summary. Ra notes repetition, then offers a larger framing:

Yes, several concepts are astrologically based, and can still have merit if perceived appropriately.
Ra does not wish to present “a complete and infallible series of images.”
Archetypes are a resource for developing faith and will.
They do not resolve paradox or bring all into unity.
Ra asks the student to look up from inward working and behold the mystery and peace of oneness—let no bird/beast, darkness/light, shape/shadow distract from unity.
Ra says: “We are not messengers of the complex. We bring the message of unity.”

Commentary. This is one of the most important “guardrails” in Book IV:

Archetypes are powerful instruments.
But unity is the altar—not the instrument.

🃏 Archetype 5 Begins: Significator of the Mind
97.10 — The male enclosed in a rectangle; base shows no movement
Summary. Ra says the student has grasped the barest essence of complete envelopment within the rectangle, and asks: can your thoughts walk? Even the finest mentality is not known without the body. Through mouth the mind speaks; through limbs the mind effects action.

Commentary. This is profound and practical:

Mind is not “free-floating spirit.”
Mind in 3D is embodied intelligence—cognition married to action-potential.

97.11 — Leftward gaze: tendency to notice negative catalyst
Summary. Substantially correct.

Commentary. A compassionate realism: noticing “what’s wrong” is normal. The work is what you do with what you notice.

97.12–97.13 — The two small polarity figures: black/white, but originally red
Summary. The “black” was first red; otherwise placement is correct. Polarity interpretation is as presumed; old symbolism for the left-hand path was russet coloration.

Commentary. This is an archetype-study gem:

Colors aren’t merely aesthetic—they can preserve ancient polarity-encoding.

🌀 Mid-Session Intervention: Circle of One + Throat/Chest Constriction
97.14–97.15 — Pause; re-walking the Circle of One; what caused the throat issue?
Summary. Ra pauses due fairly serious throat difficulty, suggests re-walking the Circle of One. After coughing and the re-walk, Ra explains:

The 5D greeter affected a previous throat/chest difficulty; some of it remained unmentioned by the instrument. Clear communication about difficulties helps the support group care better. Immediately before the working, an extreme activation of allergies/mucous caused throat difficulty; reflex tightening was triggered. Ra requests being reminded to have the instrument cough before/after each query for the remainder.

Commentary. Note the pattern: greeting + physiology + communication.

Ra never frames this as “just magic.” It’s always magic exploiting existing distortions.

⚖️ Why “Dark” Is on the Right (and “Light” on the Left) Here
97.16 — Polarity figure placement and the hands’ meaning
Summary. Ra says experiences offered as positive frequently become recorded as producing negative biases; experiences apparently negative are often found helpful in developing STO bias. Because this is guiding characteristic of mind’s processing/recording, the polarity symbols are placed as shown. The hands indicate right-/left-hand working: right hand gestures in STO, offering light outward; left hand attempts to absorb spirit power for its use alone.

Commentary. This is a big polarity teaching hidden in a small placement:

It’s not “good stuff on the right, bad stuff on the left.”
It’s “how the mind records fruit over time.”

97.17 — The eight cartouches: energy centers and/or octave symbolism
Summary. The observations are perceptive. Study “octaves” with this concept complex: many are the octaves of beingness; none fails to profit from pondering in connection with polarity development.

Commentary. “Octave” here is a subtle prompt: chakras are one octave—but not the only octave. Think: patterns within patterns.

97.18 — Symbols on the cartouches: do they matter?
Summary. They are letters/words like an inscription, largely enculturated by a people not of our generation. Roughly, the “message” could be like: “And you shall be born again to eternal life.”

Commentary. Ra again discourages fetishizing the hieroglyphic detail; keep the function, not the costume.

97.19–97.20 — Wings at the top; session ends early; comfort and contact improvement
Summary. Ra ends the session due difficulty aiding the instrument’s respiration. On closing: all is well; support group functions well. Encourage the instrument to recover from throat/chest distortion; the working cannot be removed—only physical recovery can restore normalcy, complicated by allergy tendency. Alignments are carefully considered; closing blessing.

Commentary. The ending is almost a signature of late Book IV:

Continue in care.
Continue in harmony.
And accept the body’s limits with reverence.

🛠️ Practice Corner — Living Session 97

Sign without coercion (2 minutes). If something “winged” happens, don’t rush to decode it. Just note: “This is subjectively notable.” Then choose the next step from principles (service, harmony), not from omen-pressure.

Archetype re-centering (60 seconds). Before studying images: say inwardly, “Unity is the altar. Archetypes are tools.” Then proceed.

Can my thoughts walk? (5 minutes). Choose one clear thought you’ve had recently. Ask: “What bodily action would express this thought with integrity?” Then do one small embodied step.

Fruit re-reading (6 minutes). Take one “negative” event from your week. Ask: “What STO bias might it feed over time?” Then take one “positive” event and ask: “What subtle self-serving bias might it tempt?” (No judgment—just clarity.)

Clear-report rule (30 seconds). If you’re under strain, name it early to the people supporting you. Session 97 is a quiet warning about unspoken discomfort.

🧠 Study Prompts

Where am I asking “signs” to decide for me, instead of using them (at most) as gentle prompts to re-check my principles?

What is one way I’m over-focusing on the “props” (symbols, details, systems) and losing the central contemplation of unity?

What does it mean in my life that the mind “cannot walk” without the body—where do I need embodied follow-through?

Note: This material reflects Ra’s metaphysical perspective and is offered for study—not as dogma. Use your discernment.
